Setting Up the Sengled Smart LED Starter Kit

The Sengled Smart LED Starter Kit is a great option for those getting started with smart lighting in their home. We’ve prepared a step-by-step guide on how to get your Sengled Smart LED Starter Kit connected within your smart home.

The Sengled Smart LED Element Color Plus Starter kit gives a whole new meaning to the term “mood lighting.” Not only can you pair it with Amazon’s Alexa, Google Home, and SmartThings, but you can also choose how and what you want, all from your phone. It’s a highly creative way to break up the natural light in your home without sacrificing time, energy, or your bank account.

Step 1: Open the Box

Now is the time to get excited! Your Sengled Smart LED Element Color Plus Starter kit  has finally arrived. Open it up, and you will find two lightbulbs, the Sengled Element hub, an ethernet cable, USB adapter cable, and a switching adapter. Once you have all these open and ready to plug in, you are ready for the next step.

Step 2: Download and Install the App

Head to your phone’s app store and download the ‘Sengled Element Home’ app onto your mobile device. Connect your iOS or Android device to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network to do so. Once that step is complete, connect the Element hub to any LAN port using the ethernet cable. Your Wi-Fi router is going to be your Sengled Starter Kit’s best friend. Now, provide power to the light bulbs and hub by plugging the USB adapter cable into the switching adapter.

Remember to have any empty outlets switched on so that you can turn your Sengled Element Color Plus Smart LED Bulb on and off. Having it in the “off” position will disable the Element hub and therefore, your device will not receive power. For an effortless use of the device, you can voice your command or perform your lighting wishes through your phone – instantly.

Step 3: Connect Your Lights

This pack of Sengled Element Color Plus light bulbs comes with two LED light bulbs that boast 16 million colors and 2000-6500K white hues. Open the Element Home app and create a new account. Follow the in-app instructions to add and configure each lightbulb into the hub. It’s like adding a new line to your phone family plan – it’s truly that simple!

The two bulbs included in this kit are already pre-paired and do not need to be added – which means that your work is already halfway done. If you have more lightbulbs you need to pair, now is the time to do so. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Sengled Home App on your mobile device.
  2. Click on the “+Add Bulb” button.
  3. Pair your light bulb.
  4. Name the room you want that particular light bulb to be in.
  5. View all your light bulbs in the Device Hub in the app.
  6. Keep adding bulbs if you want.

Once they are set up, click on the room that you are configuring lighting for. Now, onto the next step!

Note: These Smart LED Bulbs do not have to be in the same room as your Element Hub. They can be used for patio lighting or security lighting. You can even program the bulbs to turn on as you walk up to your door. Safety first!

Step 4: Choose Wired or Wireless Access

If your Element Hub is plugged in with the ethernet cable to your Wi-Fi router, the hub allows it to function in wired mode. Now, your Element kit is ready to go and work! If you would like to use the hub in wireless mode, here is what you do.

Remove the ethernet cable from the hub and wait 60 seconds before powering it off. Then, move the hub to your desired location – but keep in mind that it requires a strong enough Wi-Fi connection. After that, your Element kit should be good to go and ready to do its job!

Step 5: Play With Color

All done setting up? Great! It’s time to take your Sengled Smart LED Starter kit for a test drive. Choose a room to run through the different available color options for your LED light bulbs. This is where your inner artist comes to life.

On your phone, there are two tabs: “White” and “Color.” When on the “White” tab, you can play around with the temperature and brightness of the white hues. You can make them warmer or cooler based on your preference for that room.

On the “Color” tab, you can choose the preset colors, or you can choose your own color on the color spectrum. Simply press any color and it will change to that one, or you can slide your finger around until you find the color you like.

Under both tabs, there are advanced settings where you can set up timers and schedules for your programmed lights. In this case, let your lifestyle be your guide, and program away!

Step 6: Connect Your Sengled Smart Bulb to Amazon Alexa, Google Home, or SmartThings

If you have an Amazon Alexa, navigate to the Alexa app on your device if you would like to pair these two items together.

  1. From the main menu of the Alexa app, hit “Skills,” then “Your Skills” in the top right corner.
  2. Type in “Sengled Home” in the search box and select it from the menu.
  3. Tap on the Sengled Home Skill to enable it.
  4. Enter your Sengled Element Plus account login information. This will then grant it permission to the Alexa app.
  5. After you successfully link your Element Plus account with Alexa, rename your lightbulbs. This helps you recognize them faster, and it’ll be fun for you to talk to Alexa about it.
  6. Once you’re done, head back to the Smart Home tab of the Alexa app. Click “Discover devices” to make sure that your Sengled Home has been paired. Once that is complete, give a shout out to Alexa, and take your smart home lighting to a new level!
